Hi all

Back from the land of virtual limbo with malfunctioning computers which have kept me out of it for months at a time.

Has anyone had experience of truely incredible itching?? No fleas I promise. I seriously wanted to remove my skin - I've never had anything like this. It came on several hours after I'd taken my MTX which I've been on for over 3 years now. The only different thing was taking an increased dose of naproxen the previous week.

It's eased off somewhat, but I'm still very itchy and my entire skin seems slightly reddened. I can't live in a cold shower surrounded by icepacks (which is the only thing that helps) and I'm reluctant to take piriton or some such as I'm on a right cocktail of meds already.

Any ideas as to cause or solutions VERY gratefully received.

Carie xx

Hi

what are your bloods saying about your liver function?

I get dry skin, but when my liver function went mad- the itching drove me mad!

HI Carie
Yes I've experienced horrible episodes of itching!!! Initially I thought it was sulphasalazine but not taking that now or plaquinil. I'm currently on oral pred as TTC, and still itchy.
I've tried clarytin and various steroid creams but still itchy. Can't help with the cause i'm afraid, although i've never been itchy until I had RA.

Hi Carie

I also suffer from this. Eventually, I went to a dermatologist who said I had bcome allergic to all sorts of things. I now take three different types of antihistamine, which keeps it under control. Whateve the outcome, I would ask to see a dermy, just to get to the bottiom it. Also, as Jenni says, liver probs also cause this.

Take care

Love

Yes, I get awful bouts of itching, usually in bed. I could scratch for England then. The silly thing is there's nothing to see, no rash or anything, and it usually goes as quickly as it comes. The itching in my hair is the worst.

Oh Lyn, me too!!!

I thought it was only me who got the itchy head and what with having a daughter at primary school, I'm always convinced it's head lice despite no evidence of them. It drives me mad sometimes!

Poor love!

Have your liver checked as liver probs can cause itching. It could be a reaction to the MTX but doubtful if you've been taking it for three years with no problems.

Love,

Hi, I remember reading about an interaction between naproxen and mtx, both can affect liver function together the effect is increased I believe. The itching when your liver is not clearing efficiently is horrid. Although it could be something else. Maybe check with the doc or pharmacist?
